Lis and Ver

This is the story of Lis and Ver that Oliver told me as we sat together cuddled up in the back of his car in the pouring rain at the bottom of our hill. It had been a pretty bad day for me and I was feeling really sad and depressed. This silly little story that makes little, to no sense made me so very, very happy. We'd been engaged for just over 24 hours and in that moment I knew for sure that I wanted to be with him, and only him forever and ever.

Lis and Ver

Lis was a monkey. A very beautiful monkey, with beautiful brown eyes and a long, slender tail. Lis was a strange monkey. She loved to sit in the trees, watching the animals on the ground below while eating her fruit. The strangest thing about Lis was this: she'd always save one bite of her fruit to throw at the animals below. There was no real reason for it, it was just a habit she'd picked up from somewhere and it had stuck. She simply thought it was fun, be it a mango or banana she would always save the very last bite to throw down below. Needles to say all the other animals didn't appreciate it.

One day something caught her eye. It was another monkey just like her. She'd seen other monkeys before, so there was not reason for her to be so surprised. She had never seen a monkey quite like this one. She spent the rest of the day watching him, with his long handsome tail and big monkey eyes and most of all his strong monkey arms. Those arms... oh! Those arms! She'd never seen anything like them.

Eventually the other monkey noticed her and he came over to introduce himself. "I'm Ver." He said. "What's your name?" Lis smiled and blushed in her monkey skin. "I'm Lis." She said softly. And that was the beginning of this monkey relationship. They spent their days together and Lis showed Ver what it was like to throw the last bite of fruit at all the animals below them and Ver decided he thought it was lots of fun too.

Lis and Ver had a great life together and fell in love and decided that they would live  together forever and teach their baby monkeys to throw their last bite of fruit. Lis loved Ver and Ver loved Lis. Lis loved his big strong monkey arms and loved them wrapped around her even more. They were very, very happy together and lived long monkey lives.
